Drama: Ouran High School Host Club ep02

The first episode had a really low rating with a 1.1% only because the episode was going to air close to 1am due to a baseball game.  The 2nd episode had gained a pretty decent rating for its time slot and increased by more than 2% with a 3.4% rating.

It was a cute episode, but definitely not my favorite episode of the (anime) series.  [Note this is the 3rd episode of the anime].

Comments:

 Haruhi witnesses the hosts at work.  Like a boss, Kyouya reels in a cart of picture books of the hosts to sell to the customers ("so this is how the host club gets their funding").  Tamaki asks Haruhi if she wants some sweets, but turns them down.  So he asks her what she wants and she mentions Ootoro (fatty tuna) which causes a frenzy in the music room, leaving Haruhi angry.  Tamaki asks Haruhi why she doesn't dress as a girl, and shows her a blown up picture, framed and all, of her school ID.  She gets angry, but Tamaki wants her to become a girl again since he bought her a bow and goes into the spiel about how he's the father and calling Kyouya mother (and so it begins..).  They mention that physical exams are coming up, so she'll be bound to be exposed as a female soon enough.  The host club tries to figure out a way to hide Haruhi's identity, and if she doesn't agree to it, then she'll lose her chance to ever try eating ootoro.  Contemplating outside the music room, Nekozawa creepily comes out from behind a suit of armor and tells her theres a bad aura, which we get a glimpse of a creeper doctor.

 The twins and Haruhi head to the physical exam room to be greeted by a dozen nurses and doctors.  The physical exams are presented like some sort of sporting event or showcase, where the guys are paraded around shirtless while girls check them out.  The twins ask why Haruhi's appearance had changed and she explains that the kids next door put gum in her hair and decided to chop it off instead of going through the hassle of removing it.  She also lost her contact lenses and had to use her grandfathers glasses and since she couldnt afford a uniform, wore her fathers clothes (which she also revealed those were the only clothes she could wear since her father is a transvestite).

 The plan to conceal Haruhi's identity starts with Tamaki pretending to be her, but it's obvious that it's him and the girls go crazy since they think he's cosplaying her.  The twins laugh at him, making him feel embarrassed.  As he heads back into the changing room, Haruhi gives him the evil eye and is ready to reveal herself to the girls.  Before she does, a call on the PA calls out for her for a private examination in the host club room.

 The creeper doctor tries to get away from security, accidentally barges in the girls changing room, and heads towards the music room.  He creeps through the window and finds himself in the changing room that Haruhi was in, with Haruhi in it.  The hosts get there in Sentai fashion and stop the guy from doing anything irrational.  The doctor explains that he's there to give his estranged daughter a congratulatory gift for getting into Ourin High School, only to learn he's in Ouran.  Tamaki gets the twins to make a map to the right high school and gives up the bow he intended for Haruhi to give with the present.

Characters:

 Haruhi - The way Haruhi tries to shoo off Tamaki still doesn't seem right.  Haruna's portrayal still lacks Haruhi's tone in voice.  She sounds rather whiny than annoyed/angry

 Tamaki - Yusuke is really catching on to sound like Tamaki.  When he calls out Haruhi's name, it really does sound like the anime.  I'm also seeing more Masaru-like (his character in Atashinchi no Danshi) gestures throughout the episode.  Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but definitely there.

Kyouya - I don't even know what to say about this guy.  Daito really does fit the character so well, its scary.  It's funny when you watch the group shots though, he basically has the opposite reaction that everyone else has (he doesn't give a sh*t! LOL).  The only thing that stood out to me was when they were running to save Haruhi.  He doesn't seem like the type that would run.... I assumed they'd all run and Kyouya would just happen to be there, like magically transports himself there haha.

Honey - His transformations to Chibi-form are getting really weird.  I mentioned in the last post that there was something disturbing about it, and it was shown in the 2nd episode. When he clings to Haruhi, he kind of looks like a baby monkey and when they show him talking to her, it doesnt even seem like he's talking to her.

 Mori - He didn't do much this episode, so I don't have much to comment on, other than whenever something happens, his eyes get big and it doesn't seem fitting for his character.  I just think Mori would just stand there.

 Hitachiin Twins - Their mischievous nature is finally shining through.  They are hilarious when they talk to Tamaki... and yes I still get uncomfortable when I see them getting all lovey to each other.

Nekozawa - Seriously, this guy is unnecessary, yet I'm ok with him being in the drama every episode.  His creepiness is actually endearing haha.  I STILL can't believe it's the same kid from Himitsu and Hammer Session!  I need to do a screencap comparison..

I hope they touch upon the fact that the Hitachiin twins and Haruhi spend a lot of time together because theyre in the same class.  There was also something else I wanted to mention, but I cant remember what it is right now.
