Movie: Paradise Kiss

Back when this movie was first being promoted, I couldn't wait to get a chance to watch it.  Now that it was finally able to share with others, I lost that need to watch it and thought I'd just give it a chance.  I was really disappointed and I thought the movie was really boring.

I'm not a fan of Kitagawa Keiko, nor am  I a fan of Mukai Osamu (anymore at least).  I honestly thought the acting was horrible and the way the story progessed didn't flow well.  The story went from point A to point B without character development and you don't see much of the other characters that play into the story.  It felt like they just threw everything together without placing swift transitions.

One thing I did enjoy in this movie was the bright colors, it really draws attention, especially since this movie has a lot to do with fashion.

I'm going to hold onto this movie, for now at least.  I doubt I'll ever rewatch it, but it's nice to have for now.

Drama: IS~Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei~ ep02-10 Final

Official Site: TV Tokyo - IS~Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei~

Let's make this a short summary!

Story:
Haru is becoming more and more feminine as days go by, even though he knows he's a boy, he's physically becoming more like a girl (getting his period) and also emotionally (falling in love with Ibuki).  His feelings for Ibuki start to get stronger because of their time together.  Ibuki doesn't know that Haru is IS and associates himself as a guy.  It wasn't until Haru announces over the PA system that he is IS to the whole school, exposing his secret.  This prompts the student body to distance themselves from him as well as getting bullied by other students, especially the boys.  While Haru is on the verge of being expelled from the school by breaking the promise to keep his secret, the school board decides to let Haru stay, and better yet, enter the next school year as a male.

On the other side, Miwa is trying to break free from her mother's crazy antics about wanting her to become a female entirely.  It is revealed that Miwa is also IS, but does not fully harbor female characteristics physically.  Her mother wants her to get surgery to become more female, but Miwa doesn't want it as she wants to be who she is.  She's inspired by Haru to stay true to herself, which is the reason why she entered that school in the first place, to meet Haru who is also IS.  While Miwa is going through a hard time, Reon comforts her, chasing after and always wants to be with her.  She tells him she's an IS which shocks him at first, but it doesn't matter to him.

Ibuki, while falling hard for Haru, is trying to deal with his own family issues.  He hadn't seen his mother for years, nor his sister.  Ibuki as a child was embarrassed to have a disabled sister and let go of her wheelchair while they were stopped upon a hill.  The wheel chair kept going was almost hit by a truck before it was stopped by their mother.  The mother gets angry at Ibuki, but the father stuck up for him and the family split apart which still haunts him to this day.  After learning Haru's secret, stunned, he didn't know what to do.  He secretly left him messages in his question box, but in the end, Haru knew it was him encouraging him to stay strong.

Comments:
I wasn't really happy with the way the drama ended.  The series started off well, but then as it got towards the end it started to lose its magic.  The story just wasn't believable anymore which was really disappointing.  I liked the concept, but the story progressed poorly.

I didn't like Ibuki's secret, I thought it was pretty lame.  If they wanted the more dramatic effect, the best way would have been to have his sister getting hit by the car.  That would have sparked the storyline a bit.  But him just letting go on purpose, having his dad stand up for him, leaving his mom and not seeing his mom and sister again was not enough for his storyline to be interesting.

The ending was too cheesy with everyone at the Hoshino household helping Haru make a cake.  They didn't even bother inviting Ibuki over... Haru even talked to him on the phone too.  How did everything go from a trainwreck, to happy-go-lucky, especially with Miwa's family.

Another thing I didn't like was that they allowed Haru to stay AND enter the school as a male so easily.  It seemed like there was only 2 school meetings about this issue and just immediately let him stay all because ONE teacher backed him up.  I don't know how it is in Japan, but how likely would they come to the conclusion that they shouldn't expel him, even after joining the school with that promise of not telling, then agreeing to let him stay there as a male?  It's unrealistic.

I also need to mention how painstakingly annoying Haru's cooking class friends are.  I liked Usami's character, I had no problems with her, but the other 3, especially the one with the glasses. HELLA ANNOYING.  It was so hard to keep my attention to those scenes because that girl would act cute or was a cry baby.

I have to give this drama a 5/10.  I liked the idea, and I thought it would go somewhere more, realistic.  I'm not even sure if I'm willing to rewatch it, but it is a keeper :)

Fall 2011 Drama Season

I'm not interested in too many dramas this season, although I may end up picking some up along the road when I'm not so busy.  I still need to finish up doing reviews for the other Summer dramas before I can start the Fall season, but I do have a list of what dramas I'm interested in watching, not necessarily watching:

- Hunter
- Kaitou Royale
- Kare, Otto, Otoko Tomodachi
- Kaseifu no Mita
- Mitsu no Aji
- Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu
- Youkai Ningen Bem
- Runaway

It's a long list yeah?  I've already stopped collecting Hunter, Mitsu no Aji and Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu after 2 episodes.  I've skimmed through Kaitou Royale, Kaseifu no Mita, Youkai Ningen Bem and Runaway and I can see myself watching those 4 thoroughly.  I've actually been waiting for Runaway to release since I heard the announcement and that was the only drama I was interested in watching for the Fall season.  I picked up Kaitou Royale because its only 30min long in the Friday Break spot, the series airing after Ouran.  Kaseifu I picked up because it's being subbed quick (to be honest haha) and I like Matsushima Nanako.  I also took a chance with Ningen Bem because of Kame, plus I like the idea that it's a CGI drama.

We'll see what happens.  It looks like as of now that Runaway isn't going to be subbed which I'm really disappointed in, but it won't stop me from watching it.  I've been waiting for this drama for awhile now.

Drama: Meitantei Conan ep07-13 Final

Official Site: YTV - Meitantei Conan

Okay this post will REALLY be one of my supposed short summary and comments posts.  I don't have much to say because time had passed since the last episode aired, although I do remember how things ended.

Shall we begin?

Story:
From where the story left off, Ran is saved by the anecdote but now a huge balloon is blowing up in the room.  The monitor is asking for the password for the date when Sonoko was kidnapped.  Sonoko, along with her "rich" childhood friends were caught up in a kidnap heist so to speak.  Sonoko and the older sister were kidnapped while the younger sister had to follow the kidnappers directions in order to get them back.  It turned out that this was all a hoax between the sisters and Sonoko just somehow was in the wrong place in the wrong time.  Also that the older sister killed the younger one for the money.

Next story, Ran and Shinichi get caught up with a pervert who gropes Ran and is also a panty thief.  They discover that this lady that constantly gets her panties stolen, used that idea to set up an electrical rig so that when a specific one gets yanked, it'll pull the electricity.  The last night that this guy stole a pair of black undies from this lady was the night that the electricity to medical machines hooked up to her mother had shut off, thus letting her pass away.

Next, Shinichi comes across the boy detective from Osaka and they end up solving a case together..

Ran and Shinichi get freed from their cuffs from each other and end up getting separated into different rooms.  Shinichi must input the password in order to get to Ran. The case he has to remember is him solving a case about a girl being raped.

Shinichi takes Ran out to a very fancy restaurant only to be disturbed by a crime that happened in the basement.  A guy takes revenge on his boss for what had happened to his father.  The person who solved that case years before was a famous detective... Shinichi's father.

A mysterious murder at a bank branch leads to an investigation done by Shinichi and Kogoro.  They find out that a false crime, turned into murder, and in the end it was due to cloudy thinking of a guy who killed the woman that loved him.

Shinichi is under investigation for the death of Ran.  A doctor that was seeking revenge had only slowed down her body system making it seem as if she were dead, but really she was under deep sleep.  Shinichi finds out that Ran was the reason why the two of them (and Kogoro) were locked in the white room, but Ran had no idea that whatever happened in there was going to happen.  Things in the end turn out for the best.  After Ran healed, they finally get the date that they never get to have at an amusement park.

Comment:
The case stories did get better towards the end of the series, but to be honest, I wasn't particularly impressed with how it ended.  Of course it will be some kind of dramatic ending, with the crazy doctor seeking revenge and stuff, but I kind of wished something else happened.  Not that I have any ideas, but I just wish it was something else.  It was also weird to see Kogoro outside when Shinichi awakens.  He got left behind early in the series (but of course this was due to him filming other dramas as well, ie: Piece Vote) and he just randomly shows up outside saying he didn't know how he got there, he just woke up there. It's weird to me.

Also randomly having Sonoko in the episode.  I guess it's just one last shot at getting her into the series before it ends.  We also never get to see Eri again in the series after that one episode, although she was mentioned in the last one.

What I did like about the end of the series was that it left leeway for a 2nd season of this drama, which I'm sure it's going to happen since they called this "Meitantei Conan season 1" rather than just Meitantei Conan.

I guess overall I'd give it a 6/10.  I liked it, but I didn't.  I mean it was one of the better late night 30min dramas I've seen and the ratings really show it too.

The Future For...

NEWS.

This group was my everything back in 2004.  This group had just debuted (officially) so the fanbase was building.  I remember when "Cherish" released, that's when the fanbase grew huge internationally.  That was the time when forums were in, and having the chance to meet so many new people online and actually getting a chance to talk with everyone.

As much as I make fun of them now, and as much as I can't stand to even look at them, they have a special place in my heart.  They were definitely the group that pulled me in, I'm not ashamed to say that.  Im also not ashamed that my xanga still has a "Forever 8 as 1" banner haha.

Well, the point of this post was to share my opinion of the latest news revolving around well... NEWS.
My Twitter and Facebook were COMPLETELY spammed with news about Yamapi and Ryo leaving NEWS, leaving Koyama, Shige, Massu and Tegoshi to form a 4-member NEWS.  It's shocking, yet it's not surprising.  I think we all knew for a long time something was going to happen to the group eventually.  With their long break of no activities, speculation was going on and it turned out to be true.  Yamapi going solo and Ryo just sticking with Kanjani8.

I feel bad, I really do.  I'm sure if I was still a huge NEWS fan I'd be devastated.  I remember hearing the news that NEWS was going on hiatus after Kusano and Uchi's "scandals".  It sucked.  It really tore apart the fandom and we slowly drifted into new fandoms.  I really hope for success with just the 4 of them (didn't we used to call them Bebex4? hahaha).

Over the years, NEWS has been slowly degrading as a group.  To go from 9, to 8, to 6, to now 4, it's really getting to the point where it's like, why not just disband the group and stop letting us fangirls suffer lol.  But really though, I do hope they do well as a group of 4 and maybe a change in music styles? Although I can see this group going the cute, ballads road only because TegoMasu is 1/2 of the group...

Drama: Bull Doctor ep05-11 Final

Official Site: NTV - Bull Doctor

I have decided to discuss all the episodes together instead of doing individual posts.  At least now I can discuss the drama as a whole, especially since there are a couple different plots.

Story:
(in no particular order)
*Plot A - Tamami and her family:
Tamami is trying to juggle her family and work at the same time, but usually its her family that gets the backseat.  It's not that she doesn't care about her family, she worries about them as well, but with her passion for forensic pathology, she wants to know the truth.  In ep06 her son was kidnapped, and here she shows another side of herself to her colleagues.  Ep07 and onwards, you see the marital problems she endures with her husband and how she overcomes them.  Tamami needed to understand where her husband was coming from and not just rely on him for everything.

*Plot B - Chika and Nakura-sensei:
From ep05 and onwards, Chika has to choose whether or not her and Nakura-sensei are meant to be together or not.  She finally tells him she loves him and he does so as well, but as the series progressed, he never showed his affection or even acknowledges their relationship.  Ultimately they break up along the way, but in the end, they realize the love that they have for each other and end up together.

*Plot C - Takeda Family problems:
While the drama is about following Tamami and her, I guess shenanigans, the whole backbone of Bull Doctor is about the Takeda family and their past.  The story about Nobuo's drinking problem unfolds as we learn who's been sending him the texts messages.  Yashiro-sensei was paid to antagonize Takeda-sensei about his criminal past.  Takeda-sensei had for years, forged death certificates under the advisory of the head of the hospital.  It all started with the transplant surgery from his wife to Mia.  A medical error had occurred and his wife had lost her life while on the operating table.  If they were to investigate, Mia wouldn't have had her transplant and would have passed away as well.  The doctors in the room had all agreed to cover it up and claim she had passed away after the surgery in order for Mia to get her kidney.  The cover was blown and Takeda-sensei was being blackmailed in order to forge death certificates since then.

He was pushed down the stairs and endured severe head trauma.  During recovery, he felt it was finally time to tell the public truth, with Mia's permission.  When preparations were ready, the head of the hospital beat him to it and announced Takeda-sensei's leave from the hospital and that an investigation will have to go on at the hospital.  Because of his leave, Nakura-sensei was now the head professor of the forensic department.

Chika and Tamami commit a crime by stealing the body of the assistant in the hospital department, and examining it, when a forged certificate was written for his death without a primary examination.  In a confrontation, it turned out Nakura-sensei was actually helping the department by recording the conversations he had with the Head.  Before something serious had happened, the Head was arrested.  Takeda-sensei was also arrested for his part in this investigation, but Chika and Tamami were on probation for about a year before coming back to work.

Comments:
While the ratings fluctuated for the rest of the series, the finale gained more than 3% above it's first episode gaining the highest rating of the series ending with 16.4%.

I anticipated each week for episodes to get released and I really liked how the series turned out.  While I don't think the drama name matches the series in its entirety, I think it done a great job following Tamami's life and the work that revolved around her.  Adding in the sub plot with her family was kind of boring, but while I didn't care for it, it was necessary in order to give Tamami more than one-dimension.

I didn't like that not all the other forensic doctors got a chance to have a storyline.  In fact, none of them had any relevance to the story but just to be fillers and make it more realistic in the department.  The only other person that had a story that involved the main cast was Yashiro-sensei.

I do like how Mia had her relevance in the story, finally, as it revolved around her transplant surgery as a child.  At the cliff hanger, we knew that Takeda-sensei had committed a crime, but I didn't think it would have evolved his family.  It wasn't like it was a twist ending, but it was a shocker at how it started.

I think overall I can give this drama a 7, maybe a 7.5 out of 10. It was a great series to go through, but it's not one where I'm compelled to rewatch it over and over again.

Drama: Ouran High School Host Club ep06

Official Site: TBS - Ouran High School Host Club

An actual short summary, and I even capped this episode with the least amount of pictures than I have for the other episodes.  I guess you can say that I've gotten lazy to do so, even though this is supposed to be a priority of mine, but with the amount of studying I had to do in the last 2-3 weeks for my classes I've gotten used to not doing any of these reviews and just kind of forgot about them :/

But I've gotten a break from studying, so here is the next episode of Ouran.

 Story:
Hikaru and Kaoru challenge the host club customers to a "Which one is Hikaru?" guessing game.  Haruhi points out to the girls that they picked the wrong.  Hikaru and Kaoru pester Haruhi about letting them visit her house, but refuses.  The girls ask Haruhi how she knew which one was Hikaru and she said it's because he's 10% more evil than Kaoru.  Because of Haruhi's comment, it caused a fight between the twins.

Hikaru changes his hair to blonde so people are able to tell them apart.  Throughout the day, the two keep having fights causing trouble for the host club.  Haruhi learns that the twins have never had any other friends but each other, which makes their fight heartbreaking, yet it'll expand their world just a bit.  While it's good for the twins to have a fight for once, they go too far when Hikaru challenges Kaoru in the courtyard.

Karou announces that Hikaru has feelings for Haruhi, but denies it.  He tells Kaoru that he hates him, causing Kaoru to pull out a Beelzenef curse doll that he got from Nekozawa.  Before getting the chance to use it, Haruhi comes up to them and punches them, stopping them from fighting anymore.  In the end, the twins were only playing around in order for Haruhi to let them come over to her house.

Comments:
I was hoping the twins' hair colors would have been pink and blue.  Not because it fit the anime, but because it would have been hilarious to look at.

Always with the small details that I find interesting.  This time it was Honey and his reaction to the chocolate fountain in the cafeteria.  The look on his face, and also all the chocolate that ended up on his face.

Also how Renge just randomly shows up.  It was a nice addition since she tends to show up whenever she wants to and it happened in the drama as well, not that I really care for her, but still :)

[No image *GASPS* I didn't capture that?! ;)]
Also, Kyouya's reaction to when Kaoru said that Hikaru liked Haruhi.  It was obvious they would show Tamaki's reaction, but they also showed Kyouya... why is that?  DOES he like her? the drama is making it seem that way.

Last, that dance that Tamaki was doing in the cafeteria reminded me of Tumbling when his character, Wataru, was trying to follow along with the hip hop choreo (ep9) but he ended up doing Bon Odori haha.

Update: School

neglecting everything right now (even Ouran, even though I HAVE watched them all to date) because school is getting hectic and there's like a party every weekend haha.

I got HALF of episode6 of Ouran capped, but I cant do the rest until maybe Friday afternoon.
Got quizzes and 2 midterms this week and then a midterm and quizzes next week to study for (and I'll be out on Sunday leaving Sat as a study day).  I really wanna post up ASAP just so i can get them out of my queue list and move on, but it's unfortunate that I cant.  Can't I have another vacay please? :)

When You Think of Johnnys...

I came across this on the aramatheydidnt LJ.
So basically people were polled to see what was the first, erm.. group (I guess..) they thought of when they think of Johnny's.  The poll came out as:

1. Arashi (18 791 votes)
2. SMAP (11 098 votes)
3. Kanjani8 (1437 votes)
4. KinKi Kids (1402 votes)
5. TanoKin Trio (1304 votes)
6. Hikaru GENJI (1252 votes)
7. Kiss-My-Ft2 (1162 votes)
8. KAT-TUN (953 votes)
9. Hey! Say! JUMP (902 votes)
10. NEWS (843 votes)
----------------------------------------
11. Other (712 votes)
12. Shonentai (674 votes)
13. Johnny's Jr (466 votes)
14. V6 (442 votes)
15. TOKIO (411 votes)
16. Tackey & Tsubasa (392 votes)
17. Ikuta Toma (294 votes)
18. Shibugaki Tai (124 votes)
19. Otokogumi (98 votes)
20. NYC Boys (63 votes)

I'm surprised, but not really about the first 3 choices.
1) SMAP may be popular still, but Arashi has been seriously gaining some way in the last 2yrs or so.  They are really following the footsteps of their senpai doing huge concert venues, massive amount of cms, acting, TV-variety, etc.
2) The fact that Kanjani8 is #3 seems odd to me.  I haven't been in the fandom for a long time, so I'm not sure how big groups really are, but I would have thought that a different group would rank at #3.  Much that Kanjani8 would be AFTER KAT-TUN.
3) Kinki Kids at #4.  I knew they were gonna be high up, but I would have guessed #3.
4) KAT-TUN is below Kisumai.  That's shocking to me.  I would have suspected them higher, but I guess after Jin left, their popularity isn't as high as it used to be?
5) Hikaru Genji is in the top 10!!! Glad to see that even a group from the 80's can still be recognized that well.  Though if I could choose, I would think that Shounentai would have been up there as well, especially since they're still active!

This is a really interesting poll.  Even though I'm not so much of a Johnny's fan anymore, it really shows me how much the fandom has changed since I first got in (2004) to when I started losing interest (2008-09) to now.

Drama: Ouran High School Host Club ep05

Official Site: TBS - Ouran High School Host Club

The ratings went up for this episode, I don't know the exact number, but I'm guessing it went up because fangirls wanted to stare at some nekkid guys haha.  For me, this is probably my favorite story of the series itself, not just in the drama.  I don't know what it is about this storyline, but it really sticks to me out of all them.

I also gotta mention that I went a little Kyouya-Happy with this episodes caps haha.
Also, I made too many caps (which i'll try to cut down on in this post), so my summary will be shorter, if I can help it LOL

Story:
The host club heads to the beach for summer vacation.  As it turns out, they're still fulfilling their host club duties even during vacation by taking along some customers to the beach with them.  While the boys would have loved to see Haruhi in a bathing suit, it'd be impossible since they brought along some people.  As it turns out, they are staying on Nekozawa's family's private beach.  Instead of staying at their own private villas, they chose to stay at Nekozawa's since Haruhi doesn't have a passport, so wouldn't be able to travel to the members' places.

While collecting some shellfish that was just laying out on the beach, one of the crabs had a bug attached to it, scary the guests.  Before the boys could help out, Haruhi steps in without hesitation, tossing the bug away.  Haruhi mentions she's not scared of it, which prompts the boys to have a competition to find out what her weakness is.  The prize are a couple private photos of Haruhi during middle school.  The twins try to scare Haruhi in the cave, Honey tries to scare her with heights and Mori tries to scare her with a harpoon (mori).  None of them scare her of course.

As Haruhi and some of the girls were collecting more shellfish, some guys harass them.  Haruhi tosses what she had in her bucket at the guy, causing a fight to start.  One of the guests frantically calls the host club for help.  One of the guys causing trouble, pushes Haruhi off the top of the cliff.  Tamaki jumps off the cliff after Haruhi.  Haruhi awakens on shore with the host club anxiously waiting for her to come to.  Tamaki gets angry at her for not asking the guys for help, but Haruhi feels she didn't do anything wrong.  Tamaki leaves mentioning that until she apologizes, he won't speak to her.

Later in the mansion/resort/villa (whatever), Tamaki was sulking in the dark wondering why Haruhi wasn't speaking to him.  Haruhi flips the lights back on causing Nekozawa to run off, not before punching Tamaki in the face.  She flows down the stairs wearing a cute summer dress causing the guys (or most of them) to get flustered.  There was some awkward tension around the dinner table.  Haruhi ate happily and even shared some of her food with Tamaki, only that the crab leg she shared was empty.  Tamaki leaves the table with Kyouya while the others let Haruhi know that they were worried about her.

As she goes to apologize, she had the urge to throw up all the food she purged.  She ends up in Kyouya's room not realizing he was in there.  As she apologized to him, Kyouya wanted to know what they should do now that both of them are alone together.  He grabs her and throws her onto the bed, pinning her down.  Haruhi doesn't believe he'd do anything since there's no benefit.  He laughs and gets up.  Tamaki enters the room to find them alone and the bed messy.  Kyouya leaves them together only to realize theres something interesting about this situation.

While Tamaki is angry, Haruhi feels she needs to apologize.  As she's about it, thunder strikes leaving Haruhi helpless. She flees into the closet scared out of her mind.  Tamaki tries to comfort her, realizing that the reason why she didn't call for help in the first place was because she's always been alone.  He embraces her as another strike of thunder happens.  The group enters the bedroom to find Tamaki putting a blindfold and earmuffs on Haruhi thinking that it's some kind of S&M thing.  Back in the Host Club room, they make fun of Tamaki

Comments:
This episode features episode 8 of the anime, but follows the mangas story (vol 3).  At first I thought they wanted to incorporate Nekozawa some way, so they had it on his private beach, but I accidentally came across the info that that's what had happened in the manga.  Since I never read the manga, I'll just go off of what I know from the anime.

Since the private beach was Nekozawa's, and because they didn't include the artificial tropic park episode, Honey says they scattered a lot of shellfish around for them to gather (not the Ootori police force), as well as having his scaring option as heights instead of darkness.

They also had Kyouya jump in to save Haruhi after Tamaki... now why would the writers do that? hmm?  Don't tell me that the writers are gonna make all 6 of the host club members like Haruhi?  Because when Kyouya was showing the prize pictures, Mori took one too.

Other thing i've noticed was the harpoon that Mori was holding looked more like a pitch fork LOL  It was super tiny too and put on a long stick!  But it was cute when Haruhi laughed at the non-intended pun while in the anime she didn't.

I like to take notice of the little things in the drama for some reason like during dinner, Kyouya is eating during the awkwardness at the table while everyone else isn't while in the anime it was Mori who happily kept eating, even when Haruhi felt sick.  Kyouya drank from a water bottle in the bedroom just like he did in the anime, When the boys stopped the harassers from leaving, Honey and Mori stepped up front, while in the anime it was the twins who beat the guys up, and there was one more that I cant think of right now...
In fact, I totally lost my concentrations LOL  I was interrupted, and its also past midnight now so im not thinking well, so I guess I'll just leave it right here.

(I have so many caps, but I'm not gonna post them, theyre so unnecessary haha also you like how I totally failed at making a shorter summary? LOL)
